The friars of the chapter of the Province of St. Martin de Porres, USA, have elected fr. Mark E. Wedig, OP, as their Prior Provincial on June 6. The election was promptly confirmed, on the same day, by the Master of the Order.

Fr. Mark is a friar of the Province of St. Martin de Porres and currently serves as President of Aquinas Institute of Theology in St. Louis, Missouri, where he is also Professor of Liturgical Theology.

A seasoned academic administrator, fr. Mark arrived at Aquinas Institute from Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida, where he served for 19 years as Chair of the Department of Theology and Philosophy. He also served there as Professor of Theology and Associate Dean for Graduate Studies.

Fr. Mark holds a Ph.D. in Liturgical Studies from The Catholic University of America, an M.Div. from the Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology in Berkeley, California, and an M.A. in Systematic Theology from the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley.

The Province of St. Martin de Porres, commonly known as “the Southern Province,” serves the Church in the southern United States and beyond through parish ministry, campus ministry, teaching, preaching, chaplaincy, and other apostolic works. Founded in 1979, today the province has 81 friars, nearly 20 of whom are in initial formation.

Please keep fr. Mark and all the friars of the Province of St. Martin de Porres in your prayers as he begins this new ministry of service to the Order and the Church.
