Province of St. Joseph in US reelects Prior Provincial: June 5, 2026

Province of St. Joseph in US reelects Prior Provincial

The friars of the Dominican Province of St. Joseph have reelected fr. Allen Moran, OP, as Prior Provincial.

The election took place during the Provincial Chapter of the Province of St. Joseph, held at the Priory of St. Thomas Aquinas in Providence, Rhode Island, on June 5. Having received the confirmation of the Master, required by the law of the Order, fr. Allen begins a new four-year term of service in the governance and pastoral care of the Province.

Allen said. “As we begin this new term together, I pray that we may continue to grow in fraternity, fidelity to our Dominican vocation, and zeal for preaching the Gospel.”

In addition to fr. Moran’s reelection, the brothers of the chapter elected the following brothers to the diffinitorium: fr. Boniface Endorf, OP; fr. James Sullivan, OP; fr. John Paul Kern, OP; fr. Jordan Schmidt, OP; fr. Bruno Shah, OP, and fr. James Cuddy, OP.

Fr. Allen was first elected Prior Provincial of the Province of St. Joseph in January 2023. Before his election, he served in a number of administrative and pastoral roles, including as President of the Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology in Berkeley, California. His ministry has also included teaching, formation, and service in the intellectual and apostolic life of the Order.

The Province of St. Joseph, also known as the Eastern Dominican Province, serves the Church through preaching, teaching, parish ministry, campus ministry, formation, scholarship and other apostolic works. Founded in the United States in 1805, today the province has more than 300 members serving in the US, the Vicariate of Eastern Africa and elsewhere.

The Order of Preachers gives thanks for fr. Allen’s generous service and asks the prayers of the Dominican Family for him and for the brothers of the Province of St. Joseph as they continue their mission of preaching Jesus Christ.
