I am told that the phrase, in some way, "Do not be afraid" is stated more than anything else in the bible. I am told there are 71 verses that tell us not to be afraid. Despite this, with so many things that are not so pleasant in our world it can be hard to avoid fear.

Do not be afraid

But he said to them, “It is I. Do not be afraid.” They wanted to take him into the boat, but the boat immediately arrived at the shore to which they were heading.

I am told that the phrase, in some way, “Do not be afraid” is stated more than anything else in the bible. I am told there are 71 verses that tell us not to be afraid. Despite this, with so many things that are not so pleasant in our world it can be hard to avoid fear.

But our loving God calls us more and more to trust. God only desires what is best for us. God longs for us to live with him forever. Just like the disciples in today’s reading, we can find ourselves in the midst of a storm, and even when we see God, we hesitate. We fear.

But God very much wants to reassure us. He wants us to know we need not be afraid. He wants us to know he only wants the best for us. And the good news this Easter season, is that with Jesus’ victory over sin and death, we have nothing to fear. We need only to recognize this.
