Listen and you’ll hear God’s voice
Oh, that today you would hear his voice.
I try in my life over and over again to get better are being able to listen. Truth is, I like to talk. But what I am ever so slowly learning is that when I do not listen, I miss the chance to learn more about another person. And especially when it comes to prayer life, I lose even more. I lose the ability to learn about God when I talk too much.
Spiritual listening though is even harder than listening in a conversation with another person. Spiritual listening also requires an open heart. For though we hear “Oh, that today you would hear his voice” there is more to the command. We also hear, “Harden not your hearts.”
A hard heart is not a good thing, unless we really believe we can go through life completely on our own. I know that I cannot. And you cannot either. Human beings are social animals. We need others. And I maintain we need God as well.
The challenge, of course, is that we can be afraid that God might ask us to do something we would rather not do. Or, we think that once we say yes to God, there will be no other problems ever in our life. But what God promises us is not a life free from problems or evil, but a relationship that does not end.
On the friar, you can listen to our homilies (based on the readings of the day) and reflections. You can also ask us to pray for you or to pray for others. You can subscribe to our website to be informed whenever we publish an update.
