Persecution. Areas where the Church is new, and areas where the Church is persecuted. These are both conditions where the Church grows and flourishes. We see that in today’s first reading, as Saint Paul is beaten and left for dead. But the Church grows.

For me, things that are new are a type of excitement. But persecution is not something I am as fond of thinking about.
