We are not alone
“Brothers and sisters: Since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us rid ourselves of every burden and sin that clings to us and persevere in running the race that lies before us while keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the leader and perfecter of faith.“
I know there are Christian faiths that do not hold much stock in prayers we ask the saints to make for us. I have never understood that. I find it quite comforting to know that those who have gone before me in holiness are interceding on my behalf. I like to know I am not alone.
Furthermore, when I think of the heroic examples people have made throughout the centuries, and even more so those who are dying for the faith in this age of martyrs, it causes me to ask in what ways am I challenging myself. How is it that I am the type of witness that the world needs?
Most of all, this great cloud of witnesses reminds me that when I am trying to fix my eyes on Jesus, to make him my focus, indeed the only focus in my life, I am not alone.
