You are my servant

The LORD said to me: You are my servant.
Your creation by God was not an accident. It was not because God was bored and had nothing better to do. From all eternity God knew you, created you, had something in mind just for you. God meant to create you and loved you into existence.
Do you realize it? Do you ever ask God to help you to see it? To discern it? God loves you, gives you grace, and has great plans for you. All you need to do is to place yourself into a position to hear the word of God, to pray, to listen to him more.
To be a servant is not really something most of us desire. Who really wants to serve others? We probably prefer being served than to serving. There is, after all, the man in the gospel parable who wants to tear down his barns in his success so that he can relax and enjoy the fruits of his hard work. But, alas, God has different plans.
To be a servant of God is to make sure you place yourself often in God’s presence. To be a servant of God is to commit to discerning, to listening with the heart. Being a servant means you want to focus your attention on how God is a part of your life, and to commit to making God the most important part of your life. You make your relationship with God the most important way in which you view the entire world and all your life.
Most importantly, being a servant is to think about what God wants, and to come to believe that always what God wants is what is best for each of us. But how is it, then someone goes about discerning how to serve God? The Friar is going to work on a course on this website to seek to provide resources to help with discernment, ways you can find the will of God in your life. Be sure to look for it. The hope is to roll this out for the season of Lent. Until then, maybe just make this request of God when you pray: God, help me to know your will and to do it.
On the friar, you can listen to our homilies (based on the readings of the day) and reflections. You can also ask us to pray for you or to pray for others. You can subscribe to our website to be informed whenever we publish an update.
