It’s a Brand New Year and Mary wants to help you

And Mary kept all these things, reflecting on them in her heart

If you have a friend in the Blessed Mother (and you do) than you have both the model of a believer and a powerful source of prayer. Mary, the Mother of God wants to do all she can to introduce you to her son, Jesus. So let her.

Mary is the exemplary model of faith, and probably at no time for us more than today. We are busy, we move fast, we chase every brand new thing that comes along. We want it all. But often, despite all we have, we recognize that we really do not have what is most important.

If we are to be truly happy, we need to recognize there is nothing more important than our relationship with Jesus. And as the Mother of Jesus, Mary is like any mother. So proud of her son. She is able to see in Jesus her great hope and salvation. Mary’s relationship with Jesus is brand new.

How is it brand new? Well, like any mother, Mary could not love her son more. But she is also a disciple of her son. She is the woman of faith who trusts in God even when she cannot fully understand how it is that God’s plan will work out. Even when she experiences the sword of sorrow that pierces her heart watching her son die on the cross.

But her brand new relationship is so evident as she gathers in the upper room with the disciples. Her strong desire for a relationship with God is made visible by another who desires this powerful relationship, John. And in giving Mary to John, Jesus gives us Mary too.

So as you think about this new year, 2023, let Mary pray for you. Let her show you how her faith can influence yours. Pray the rosary. Reflect on what God does in your life, and treasure his actions in your heart.

On the friar, you can listen to our homilies (based on the readings of the day) and reflections. You can also ask us to pray for you or to pray for others. You can subscribe to our website to be informed whenever we publish an update.
