My sister the holy innocent
Many people are not aware that I have a sister who died when I was four years old, and she was five. She had a variety of medical issues, and so that she was able to go to God so quickly was a blessing. Her life was filled with a lot of surgery and time in the hospital.
Moreover, my sister never would have talked and never would have walked. And there are those who could ask the question, of what value is such a person? In fact, people do ask such questions, and sadly even decide there are some lives that just are not worth living.
Yet my parents impressed upon me as a young child that my sister was a holy innocent, a life that had worth simply because she was a child of God. And even more, as a holy innocent, she is now an advocate who prayers I seek daily, since as a holy innocent, she is always in the presence of God.
As we celebrate those holy innocents who were killed by an insecure king, we are challenged in our lives to remember that all the holy innocents, be it those killed by Herod, those lost to illness and disease, or those lost to abortion, we have holy innocents who pray for us, seeking for us the holiness and salvation they already enjoy.
On the friar, you can listen to our homilies (based on the readings of the day) and reflections. You can also ask us to pray for you or to pray for others. You can subscribe to our website to be informed whenever we publish an update.
