God is With Us: Spend 5 With Jesus
There are days when I wonder where the Church is headed. What will the future look like? I get sad when I see the division between people who claim to follow Jesus. And there are times when I can let these feelings of sadness get away from me.
It seems to me that the division in the Church arises from an inability to remember. An inability to remember that our faith does not depend upon us. It is a certain type of arrogance that thinks otherwise. In fact, I think so many of the problems we face arise from arrogance. At least in my case, I know I get arrogant.
You see, it is easy to forget that God is with us. We need to hear carefully this truth. God is with us. We are not alone. Even when we do not know what lies ahead, God does. And that is enough.
When we are in times of fear, we tend to seek something that is solid and true. But often we do this based only on our own efforts. If only all the Masses in the Church were celebrated this way or that way. If only everyone voted for this party or that party. If only everyone thought this way or that way.
When we forget that we are not alone, when we forget that only God has all the answers, we can give in to fear, worry, anger, and cynicism. But this Christmas, we need to remember that it is Jesus who founded the Church, Jesus who saves us, and Jesus who is always with us. And that is really all we need to know.
