Readings for Today

Advent Reflection: My heart exults

In a broken world, it can be difficult sometimes to find causes for joy. We look and it can be the case that all there is around us is doom and gloom. And will it ever end?

The answer is that it only ends when we recognize in our lives the holy presence of God. In a Lasallian school, there is a constant reminder about the holy presence of God. We are reminded that in everything we do, everywhere we go, indeed everything we become, we are in God’s holy presence.

Focusing on God’s holy presence reminds us what we have. It reminds us that we are overwhelmed with God’s blessings, even when we cannot see them. Both women in today’s readings are given cause to burst forth with the praise of God. For Hannah, it is in recognizing the blessing of her son. For Mary, it is in recognizing the fulfillment of her salvation.

This Advent season, do you find yourself focused on what you do not have, or on what you have? Are your eyes turned toward the evil present in our world, or on the blessings of the Word made Flesh?

Each day during the season of Advent, you will find an advent reflection from faculty and students at Christian Brothers College High School. To find all the reflections, go to our Advent Reflections page.
