Advent Reflection: Rejoice, Your Salvation is about to Come
For most of us it does not take too much memory to recall what it was like as a little kid waiting for Christmas to arrive. And if it was the night before, the waiting almost seemed unbearable. It hardly seemed possible we would ever be able to fall asleep.
Can you imagine what it would be like if waiting on our salvation felt the same way? What would it be like if we got just as excited in waiting for our salvation as we did in waiting for Christmas? Would waiting for Jesus to return to save us be as difficult as waiting for Christmas as a little kid?
And yet what Advent is about is trying to achieve that childlike yearning for something that excites us more than we ever thought possible. It is a reminder that we must long for the presence of Jesus in our hearts. It is a challenge that we must seek to live our lives with the accountability that comes from wanting what Jesus wants and living as Jesus lived.
And yet there is another important consideration about Advent. It is not primarily about our patience, our longing or our actions. Rather it is about God’s patience with us, God’s longing for a relationship with us, and God’s actions to seek a deep relationship with us.
So, get excited! God is ready to show you a life better than you could ever have imagined.
Each day during the season of Advent, you will find an advent reflection from faculty and students at Christian Brothers College High School. To find all the reflections, go to our Advent Reflections page.
