Advent Reflection: The Lord Hears the Cry of the Poor

You do not need to read much in the Old or New Testament to discover that God has a soft spot for the poor and brokenhearted. In fact, time and again he warns the rich and well-off not to rely on their own possessions, but to trust in Him.

“The LORD is close to the brokenhearted; and those who are crushed in spirit he saves.” When it comes to faith, it is often when we realize that we really have nowhere else to turn that we are ready to believe in God. We think we know best, but never as well as God knows what is best.

We think we can survive simply by our own efforts, but we lose our job, we get a terminal illness, a realtionship breaks, or something else reminds us that we cannot control all of life. Then where do we turn. Really it does not matter, because God will turn toward us and heal our broken hearts if we let him.

Each day during the season of Advent, you will find an advent reflection from faculty and students at Christian Brothers College High School. To find all the reflections, go to our Advent Reflections page.
