Advent Reflection: How to be prepared

Advent Reflection: An ordinary person becomes God's messenger: Monday, December 12, 2022 8

There is something compelling about Our Lady of Guadalupe. First there is the absolute reluctance of Juan Diego to participate by speaking to the Bishop. He goes another way. He is not believed. Who could blame this ordinary man for not wanting to do something that seemed to be so far-fetched?

But as Mary is with all, she is gentle with Juan Diego. And it is her gentleness, helping Juan Diego to see something great at work through him, that reminds us that all of us, regardless of who we are or what we think, can be tremendous vehicles of God’s grace.

Just look at all of the holiness that came to be through the “Yes” of Mary. And now Mary inspires Juan Diego to utter his “yes” which has had an impact he could never have imagined. There is a lesson for all of us.

Holiness does not come first from our efforts, but from the mysterious call of God. Each of us at our baptism became a beloved son and daughter of God. And each of us will be called to be vehicles of God’s grace. Praise be to God for these gifts of holiness in our lives.

Each day during the season of Advent, you will find an advent reflection from faculty and students at Christian Brothers College High School. To find all the reflections, go to our Advent Reflections page.
