Talents and Trouble

Jesus is on his way to Jerusalem, and that can only mean trouble. As he is going on his way, he tells a story about people who were given talents to use. In Luke’s story, each gets the same amount to use as they can. While the end result is similar, the equality at the beginning is interesting. Wrapped around this story is another story about a man who goes to be king and is rejected by those who do not like him.

It seems that a point Jesus might be making here is that while there will be opposition to Jesus, and while his journey to Jerusalem is about death, at the same time what Jesus offers is tremendous for those who trust in him enough to use what God has given them. And so, we need to go and do the same.
