Navigating the Uncertainty of Life by Finding the Way: Homily for Friday, May 13, 2022
The Way. Jesus said to him, “I am the way and the truth and the life.” Was Thomas convinced by these words? He says the disciples do not know the way. How often to we believe that if we just think a little harder we can figure out the way on our own?

The Way

Jesus said to him, “I am the way and the truth and the life.” Was Thomas convinced by these words? He says the disciples do not know the way. How often to we believe that if we just think a little harder we can figure out the way on our own? Jesus reminds us that finding the way is about letting ourselves be found by Jesus.
I can attest to this. When I was ordained a priest, I thought I knew what it was that God wanted for me. And I many ways, I did. But my life was not about a straight line between two points, but is rather characterized by more twists and turns than straight lines.
What I have learned is how important it is to discover and recognize the destination, and then to do what it is I need to do to get there. How is this possible with Jesus? First, we have to know that when our focus is always about finding Jesus, we get to where he chooses to lead us. Secondly, we have to know that Jesus has prepared a place for us and he will lead us there.
