Advent Reflections

Advent Reflections

Advent Reflections. I have found myself often focusing on Mary’s profound acceptance of God’s plan for her, but In todays reading we see her social consciousness. I’m left in awe of the powerful voice and clear understanding that the world needs to be turned on it’s head.
Each day during the season of Advent students, faculty, and staff of Christian Brothers College High School will write a reflection about Advent.

Advent Reflections

Both readings today give us the voices of Hannah and Mary, the mothers of Samuel and Jesus. I immediately am reminded of the popular expression around Apples and Trees.

Mary’s words, ”He has cast down the mighty from their thrones and has lifted the lowly. He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty” are nothing less than revolutionary. That message is echoed numerous times in the later teachings  of Jesus (i.e. the beatitudes in Luke’s gospel) and I’m left wondering if apples fall far from trees.

I have found myself often focusing on Mary’s profound acceptance of God’s plan for her, but In todays reading we see her social consciousness. I’m left in awe of the powerful voice and clear understanding that the world needs to be turned on it’s head.
