Advent Reflections

In the same spirit as Mary and with Jesus in our hearts, we are called by our Church to take Jesus to everyone we meet; to bring our faith, hope and love to someone who might need a little assistance and possibly make a difference in someone’s life. We will not evangelize a great saint like John the Baptist but we can follow Mother Theresa and “…do small things with great love.”
Each day during the season of Advent students, faculty, and staff of Christian Brothers College High School will write a reflection about Advent.

Today’s Advent Reflection

Reading the gospel for today, the words of Elizabeth immediately lead us to praying the Hail Mary that we are so familiar and pray, repeatedly, each day. Elizabeth’s words were in response to Mary’s visit, as read in the first sentence of today’s gospel: “Mary set out in those days and traveled to the hill country in haste to a town in Judah, where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth.” In Her visit to assist Her cousin, Mary brought Christ to Elizabeth, Zechariah and of course St John the Baptist. Mary brings Christ to everyone She visits.

What would have happened to Zechariah’s family if Mary had not visited them? Would St. John the Baptist’s life have been different? Would he have been the voice in the wilderness?

In the same spirit as Mary and with Jesus in our hearts, we are called by our Church to take Jesus to everyone we meet; to bring our faith, hope and love to someone who might need a little assistance and possibly make a difference in someone’s life.  We may not evangelize like the great saint John the Baptist but we can follow Mother Theresa and “…do small things with great love.”

The life that might change would more than likely be our own. Mary, our Mother in heaven, please lead us to your Son, help us to place Him in our hearts and to take Him to everyone we meet.

— Mr. Edward Puzzella, Chief Financial Officer
