Advent Reflections

Advent Reflections

God is always there even in the messiness of our own lives.  He is there when we are at our best and loving others, and he is there when we aren’t loving as we should.  He can use us in our brokenness and our goodness.
Each day during the season of Advent students, faculty, and staff of Christian Brothers College High School will write a reflection about Advent.

Advent Reflections

Each day a student or staff member from Christian Brothers College High School write advent reflections.

Today we have every lector’s nightmare, the genealogy of Jesus from the Gospel of Matthew.  It is a list of names tracing the ancestors of Jesus all the way back to Abraham.

The list includes the faithful and the unfaithful ancestors of Jesus.  The heroes that stood up against injustice and stayed true to God even at the cost of their own lives.  It also includes those that turned away from God, worshipped false gods, and lead others to do the same.

In the end we get Jesus, the savior of the world, the greatest act of love to ever exist.  What an amazing outcome that God can use these people to do his will and bring Jesus into the world.  This is a great reminder to us that God is always there even in the messiness of our own lives.  He is there when we are at our best and loving others, and he is there when we aren’t loving as we should.  He can use us in our brokenness and our goodness.

This is why Jesus is called the Prince of Peace, because we know that in all circumstances God is working to bring Jesus into our world.
