You know the way. You have a place.

There is nothing like having someone go out of their way to get ready for your arrival. Even though I found travelling for work to be tiring, at the end of a long day being able to relax in a hotel room made up for my arrival was a pleasure.

Similarly, when you are invited over to someone’s house as a guest, when everything is ready for your arrival, there is a special feeling of welcome.

As a teacher, when a school is ready for the arrival of new students, there is something exciting about the moment. When it is clear that everything is ready for the beginning of the year, the feeling of hope and accomplishment is palpable.

The same is true when I think of the promise Jesus makes to each one of us. If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back again and take you to myself, so that where I am you also may be. How exciting!

Just think of it. From all eternity, Jesus has a place in heaven prepared for us. He has shown us the way to this place, because he himself is the way. He has given us a preview of his relationship with him here on earth, as a foretaste of the eternal relationship he calls us to share with him in heaven for ever.

How special is this welcome he makes for us! How much does he love us that he wants us to be with him for all eternity. You know the way. You have a place. Now just follow Jesus.

Let us pray.

Dear Jesus, When we had rejected you by sinning, you did not give up on us. Filled with mercy we cannot comprehend, you forgave our sins and opened the pathway for us to eternal salvation. Help us to see and experience your love for us, so that we can live with you forever in heaven.  We make this prayer in the name of Jesus. Amen.
