Friarly: What we have: Homily for April 24, 2020

In our lives we are confronted with many worries, many problems. In the face of some of these problems we can feel powerless and ineffectual. But the response of Andrew in the Gospel gives us a hint at how we can respond.

In our lives we are confronted with many worries, many problems. In the face of some of these problems we can feel powerless and ineffectual. But the response of Andrew in the Gospel gives us a hint at how we can respond.

Confronted by the vast crowd of people, the disciples are left wondering: how are we to feed these people? Andrew’s reply is simple but evocative: He tells Jesus what they have. And then Jesus does what Jesus always does. He provides.

We need only offer to God what we have, God will do the rest.
