Prayers for the dead 2022
Prayers for the dead. In the Catholic Church, November is often set aside to pray for the dead. Why do Catholics pray for the dead? We do so because while all sin is displeasing, not all sin is mortal. “All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin that is not deadly.” (1 John 5:17)
That is to say, that while all sin is unrighteous, not all sin is of the same degree. For lesser sins, sins that are not mortal, the Church suggests that we pray for them. November is typically a time where this is done, because in the northern hemisphere everything around us appears to be dying.
