Let’s be blunt: you have a very difficult and quite essential ministry. School can be tough enough for teachers, but the daily contact can build relationships that help students learn. Catechists have to build these relationships in very short bites of time.
This section of the website serves to help provide techniques, pedagogy, resources and more. And yet it is important to emphasize that nothing outweighs your witness to the faith. Nothing. It is quickly evident when those teaching the faith to children do not practice their faith. And it is life-changing when they do.

The importance of growing in faith
There is an old cliche that says, “You can’t give what you don’t have.” And there is some truth to that. If we stop seeking to strengthen our own faith formation, we risk becoming dry and stale. We need to keep ourselves in a constant state of allowing God to renew his relationship with us.
And so below are some resources for personal faith growth.

Resources from The Friar

Catechist Training
On August 14, 21 and 28, we will gather at St. Bernadette beginning with Adoration at 6:30pm, with the session from 7-8pm. Here are the topics for each session.
There are three components to our sacramental preparation for second and third graders (usually – though other grades may be present). They are Mend, Nourish, and Zeal.
There is also a page of resources about basic education words, techniques and principles that catechists may find helpful.

On the friar, you can listen to our homilies (based on the readings of the day) and reflections. You can also ask us to pray for you or to pray for others. You can subscribe to our website to be informed whenever we publish an update. You can subscribe to our podcasts on Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts.
