The frightening truth: It’s Hard to Live the Gospel and Follow Jesus: Homily for Sunday, September 18, 2022
Following Jesus and living the Gospel are hard. They can be easily confused with other aspects of our life. For example, there are people who believe that living the gospel will lead to financial prosperity. There are others who confuse political party affiliation with being a Catholic. We can easily forget that believing in Jesus and seeking to follow him have natural consequences. We can conduct business, but we must do so in a way that seeks to help the poor and marginalized. We can be involved in politics, but membership in any political party must never become more important (or seen as similar to) being a member of the body of Christ, the Church. But we also must realize that it is not always easy to live our lives as gospel Christians, so most of all, we need to seek God’s grace.
