Homily given at Our Lady of Lourdes, University City, Missouri

If you focused only on what Jeremiah did, in terms of the world, he might not have been seen as a very good prophet. His words did not always seem to convince anyone to return to the Lord. But if you look at the person that Jeremiah was, then it becomes clear that he was a prophet. He simply could not help but speak in the name of the Lord. Peter focused on what Jesus did; but the person of Jesus was more than what he did. It was who he was that made all the difference. When it comes to evaluating a human life, we can think that accomplishments are everything. But in truth, it is the power of our relationship with Jesus that keeps Satan at bay.
