Prayer for Doctors

Today we pray for all doctors, that God may give them all they need to heal the sick.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Lord, Have Mercy.       Lord, Have Mercy.

Christ, Have Mercy.    Christ, Have Mercy.

Lord, Have Mercy.       Lord, Have Mercy.

Lord, Hear Us.        Lord, Hear Us.

Lord, Graciously Hear Us.     Lord, Graciously Hear Us.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed by thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours, now and forever. Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Glory Be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

A reading from the holy gospel according to Luke.

There was a scholar of the law who stood up to test him and said, “Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” Jesus said to him, “What is written in the law? How do you read it?” He said in reply, “You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your being, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.” He replied to him, “You have answered correctly; do this and you will live.”

But because he wished to justify himself, he said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?” Jesus replied, “A man fell victim to robbers as he went down from Jerusalem to Jericho. They stripped and beat him and went off leaving him half-dead. A priest happened to be going down that road, but when he saw him, he passed by on the opposite side. Likewise a Levite came to the place, and when he saw him, he passed by on the opposite side. But a Samaritan traveler who came upon him was moved with compassion at the sight. He approached the victim, poured oil and wine over his wounds and bandaged them. Then he lifted him up on his own animal, took him to an inn and cared for him. The next day he took out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper with the instruction, ‘Take care of him. If you spend more than what I have given you, I shall repay you on my way back.’ Which of these three, in your opinion, was neighbor to the robbers’ victim?” He answered, “The one who treated him with mercy.” Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.” The gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Let us pray.

Lord, Dear God, we know you are the Divine Physician, providing the ultimate healing to all peoples. We know so many people around the world are suffering with the coronavirus. Yet, during all times you raise up men and women to bring compassion and healing as doctors. Help doctors who participate in your ministry of healing. Give them wisdom when decisions are difficult, give them guidance when they are unsure, give them your love when they feel tired and unappreciated. Help us to remember that the healer also can be in need of healing. Help us to be kind and compassionate when despite the best efforts of doctors the patient still dies. Guide all doctors with our wisdom, skill and grace, that in all they do they may realize their healing power comes from you, the divine physician who always seeks to heal us from bodily and spiritual ailments. We ask this prayer in the name of your Son Jesus who lives with you and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever.

May almighty God bless us, protect us from all evil and bring us safely to everlasting life. Amen.
