Remember us, O Lord, as you favor your people. Is not this our cry to God? Is it not at times of difficulty and separation we find ourselves feeling forgotten?
Yet we are never forgotten. Consider the comforting words of Isaiah. “But Zion said, “The LORD has forsaken me; my Lord has forgotten me.” Can a mother forget her infant, be without tenderness for the child of her womb? Even should she forget, I will never forget you. See, upon the palms of my hands I have engraved you.”
How much is it that God loves us? How many times is it that God invites us back to forgiveness and mercy? How deep is the love God has for us? So deep we are always remembered by God. We are always loved. We are carved into the palms of Jesus.
How? Through the crucifixion of Jesus. His hands were engraved with the mark of the nails, those painful nails, that are the very instruments of love. The love Jesus has for each one of us. How amazing!
And so, even if you feel forgotten today, know that God loves and remembers you. Even if you are not able to receive communion, know that God still pours out grace, love, mercy and forgiveness. We are still spiritually connected, even if we cannot be in the same space.
Let us pray.
Dear Jesus, At times of difficulty, we can feel forgotten. We can feel lonely and afraid. We can feel that you are absent. But we know that you cannot ever forget us. Your love is too powerful, too great, too awesome. Help us to remember you always pour out your grace into our hearts. We make this prayer in the name of Jesus. Amen.
